Evocation of the Witch

To Evoke or Invoke?

To EVOKE a deity or being is to call upon it and ask it to join you during ritual or a working. Sometimes this involves simply asking (“we ask you to join us in the circle tonight!”) or making an offering (“Great Brighid, we offer you this bread as a gift of thanks!”) in hopes that the deity will turn up. Regardless, think of it as "hanging out" with the deity or being.

To INVOKE, on the other hand, is a form of voluntary possession. When you invoke a deity or being, you’re not asking it to come "hang out", you’re inviting into yourself, and that god or goddess will manifest through a human host. The ritual of Drawing Down the Moon is an excellent example of invocation of deity.

Evocation of the Witch

I am one with the universe.
I am no-thing and I am everything,
I am the stars and the moon
the seas and the storms
the breath of life
the alchemical change
the living and the dead.

I am!

I am the power and the joy.
I am the spirit that dances.
I am the magick and the priest
the Witch and the sorceress
the angels and the elements

omnipotent
omnipresent

I am!

I am the past, the present, and the future
I am the void
and I am the manifestation of my desire.

I am!
